The
Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since
1810. It is a
16-day festival running from late September to the first weekend in October.
In the beginning,
it was the celebration of the royal wedding on October 12, 1810. They invited
all the citizens of Munich to the celebration. The last day, on October 18, horse races were held
in their honor. Since then, every year they celebrate a big festival during 16 days. A big funfair.
Traditional
visitors wear during the Oktoberfest Bavarian hats, which contain a tuft of
chamois hair. People wear traditional Bavarian costume like in the photo.
Oktoberfest is the Beer Festival. Only
beer brewed within the city limits of Munich, can be served at the Munich
Oktoberfest.
People can
eat a wide variety of traditional food such as roast chicken, roast pork, sausages
along with pretzel (bread), potato, red cabbage.
